Floor, Furniture, and Space

While looking for carpeting, my roommate came across a furniture online shop and it was comical how she looked over at me and said, "Oh yeah, I'm going to have to put something on top of my new carpet for my room!" We've just moved into a place so we're still surrounded by boxes and the place looks pretty bare. Of course, the floor is a logical place to start, but she was right! There will be a next step! So we started envisioning how we'd like to furnish the place. It was fun deciding where to place a couch, once we get one, and the book shelves, and end tables. We had fun looking at some great dining tables and dishes. We also had an interesting discussion of whether to get a large coffee table or just have end tables and then a smaller, movable coffee table in front of the sofa. This was just to leave more open space. We both feel strongly that clutter is to be avoided at all costs! We both think that space is in fact part of interior design! If you think about it, it often gets overlooked, or underestimated, or compromised too often. Yet space is important for how a room feels; it's much more inviting not to be closed in by furniture and stuff in general. So that's definitely one of our decorating elements: space!
